Cage Warriors 138: Former champion James Webb looks to bounce back in Colchester headliner
Former Cage Warriors middleweight champion saw his resurgence hit the buffers last time out. Now he's back to showcase his title credentials once more.
The fighters set for action in the second night of fights at Colchester's Charter Hall took to the scale at this morning's official weigh-ins ahead of Cage Warriors 138.
The second leg of the promotion's double-header in Essex will be headlined by the returning former middleweight champion James Webb, who will take on Italy's 9-1 Leon Aliu in search of a strong victory to push himself back into title contention.
Webb lost his middleweight title to Nathias Frederick in November 2019, but bounced back to form with victories over Mick Stanton and Craig White. But that momentum took a hit when he was outpointed by Matt Bonner at Cage Warriors 121 in March 2021.
Now Webb is back, and he faces in-form European opposition in Aliu as he looks to reassert his championship credentials at 185 pounds.
The co-main event features a dynamite bantamweight clash between all-action Welshman Josh Reed and former flyweight champion Luke Shanks.
Reed is looking to build a win streak in a bid to earn a shot at the bantamweight strap, while Shanks is looking to capture championship gold in a second weight division after his success at 125 pounds in 2020.
The fight card took a blow with the news that the flyweight matchup between Coner Hignett and Michaelangelo Lupoli had been scrapped after Hignett was not medically cleared to compete by SAFE MMA.
Cage Warriors 138 streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
