Power Rankings: Jordan Barton shines on a tough week in the cage for the Brits
A host of Brits were in action on the world stage this past weekend, but only one – Jordan Barton – came home with the W.
Six Brits were in action across the weekend as Bellator and the UFC both staged fights involving UK athletes. But, on a tough weekend for homegrown fighters on the world stage, only one fighter was able to bring home a victory.
That man was Jordan Barton, who produced an excellent performance to hand French featherweight Fabacary Diatta the first defeat of his career at Bellator 280.
The other Brits in action in Paris, Mike Shipman, Lewis Long, Charlie Leary and Gavin Hughes, fell to defeats, with Leary particularly unlucky to have lost a split decision to former Cage Warriors champion Soren Bak.
England’s Danny Roberts was the sole British fighter in action at UFC 274, but he lost out on the scorecards after a back-and-forth war with Brazilian veteran Francisco Trinaldo.
Next Up
A host of Brits are set for action this coming weekend, with Bellator heading to London for Bellator 281 on Friday night. There’s also British involvement at the UFC Apex on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Bellator 281 is headlined by London’s Michael “Venom” Page, who will look to capture the interim Bellator welterweight title against American Logan Storley, while middleweight contender Fabian Edwards takes on former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Paul “Semtex” Daley will fight for the final time as he brings down the curtain on his stellar career.
Also set for action at the OVO Arena at Wembley are England's Luke Trainer, Alfie Davis, Tim Wilde, Kate Jackson, Lanchana Green, Lee Chadwick and Andrew Fisher, while Scotland's Robert Whiteford is also back in action.
The following night also sees a pair of Brits in the cage at UFC on ESPN 36 , as England’s Davey Grant returns to action against Louis Smolka. The event also marks the occasion of the octagon debut of former Cage Warriors and EFC flyweight champion Jake Hadley. He’ll take on Brazil’s Allan Nascimento.
