Power Rankings: Powell hits the ground running at PFL 1
Just 12 days after earning his spot on the main PFL roster, Simeon Powell blasted his way to victory in the first bout of the promotion's 2022 season.
English light heavyweight prospect Simeon Powell is wasting no time in making a big impression with his new promotion.
“Smooth” delivered a peach of a knee to knock out Clinton Williams in the third round of his non-season bout at PFL 1 last week. The 23-year-old’s win was the very first victory recorded in the PFL’s 2022 season schedule, and came just 12 days after he outpointed Tobias Baker to earn his spot on the main PFL roster in the PFL Challenger Series.
Now with two impressive displays under his belt, the future looks bright for Powell, whose career sits at six wins, no losses.
Also added to the Power Rankings were two Brits who ended up on the losing end of the equation in their recent appearances.
Scotland’s Stevie Ray returned from a three-year hiatus to join the PFL’s lightweight season, but lost out to Alexander Martinez, while English bantamweight Cameron Else was stopped in the first round by China’s Aoriqileng at the UFC Apex.
Next Up
This week sees the PFL return of featherweight contender Brendan Loughnane, who was edged out in last year’s semi-finals by the eventual winner Movlid Khaybulaev.
Now Loughnane is back, and looking to go all the way to the championship this time around. He’ll kick off his season at PFL 2 against Japanese contender and former Shooto title challenger Ryoji Kudo.
Also set for action is former BAMMA heavyweight champion Stuart Austin, who will feature in the main event of PFL 2. Austin has joined the PFL’s heavyweight lineup for the 2022 season and will begin his campaign against defending 2021 heavyweight champion Bruno Cappelozza.
