Video: The Brit Pack United Nations Fantasy MMA Draft

The Brit Pack's Simon Head, MMA Junkie Radio's "Gorgeous" George Garcia & Brian "Goze" Garcia, and Phone Booth Fighting's Richard Hunter gather around the virtual table to draft their MMA rosters.

It’s Draft Week in Las Vegas as the NFL takes centre stage in Sin City for the 2022 NFL Draft, and here at The Brit Pack we didn’t want to be left out. So we decided to run a draft of our own.

We present The Brit Pack United Nations Fantasy MMA Draft, where four MMA podcasters, The Brit Pack’s Simon Head, MMA Junkie Radio’s “Gorgeous” George Garcia and Brian “Goze” Garcia, plus Phone Booth Fighting’s Richard Hunter, take turns to draft fighters from the UFC, Bellator and PFL to form an 11-athlete roster to compete through the remainder of 2022.

The rules were relatively simple. Draft one fighter for each weight class, from women’s strawweight all the way up to men’s heavyweight (with the exception of the women’s featherweight division, which we omitted due to a smaller talent pool). Once a player is picked, they are off the board and can’t be picked by anyone else.

In addition, each team must have at least one fighter from each of the major US-based organisations, UFC, Bellator and PFL. Also, each team can only carry one champion from the UFC or Bellator.

Throughout the year, we’ll keep track of each team’s performance throughout the year, using the same scoring system that we use for The Brit Pack’s Power Rankings (see below).

It was a fun hour as we ran through 11 rounds of drafting to set up our teams. But whose lineup will fare best? Let us know!

Scoring System

The Brit Pack United Nations Fantasy MMA scores are determined by an adaptation of the PFL's league scoring system.

  • Fight appearance: 1 point

  • Win (of any kind): 3 points

  • Additional bonus points for a finish:

    • Round 1 finish: 3 points

    • Round 2 finish: 2 points

    • Round 3-5 finish: 1 point

  • Championship bonus (for winning a title fight with any of the aforementioned promotions): 5 points
